J-2 Design is a new interior design studio that just opened in Long Beach, CA. We were visiting for the weekend to have an art reception for Erin’s work. When we got to talking about their website they told me that their web guy was also a union electrian, who had recently returned to work. Now their website was just a very attractive home page with no links or content, and no additions in site.

I told them about my success integrating the Worpress platform with Studiopress’s Genesis Framework. I showed them how easy it is to update the website themselves, once the basic framework was up and running. On Saturday night we agreed that I would install wordpress with the necessary themes, widgets, and plugins, and give them a one-hour tutorial on how to update the site themselves.

By the end of the day on Monday, I had taken a dozen new product photos to create a home-page slideshow, installed the software to their site, built the empty framework for the content they new they wanted, customized the theme to match their logo color scheme, and trained them for an hour on using WordPress to update their site.

I think this may be the Holy Grail for small business. WordPress with available themes is a way for everyone to have a website that they can update themselves without having to call a web geek.
